Manolios, the Python of Rethymno (Watch video)

Who is releasing reptiles in Rethymno, Crete?

A python, affectionately named Manolios, was spotted at Rethymno, Crete, where pythons are clearly not meant to be. The snake seemed uninterested in the cars and made its way through the central streets.

This new creature comes following worldwide attention that was cast on the region following the appearance of a crocodile nicknamed Sifis at Potami dam, an artificial lake in the region. Sifis remains at large despite authorities’ efforts to catch him.
The crocodile has many fans in the region that have benefited from the media attention that Sifis has drawn. A number of taverns and souvenir shops saw a rise in business as they offered crocodile-shaped pizzas and crocodile dolls.

The sudden appearance of the python following that of the crocodile is turning Crete into an island jungle.
