Interim president of New Democracy announced resignation clarifying that he remains candidate for the new leader of New Democracy.

In the morning Mr. Meimarakis had appointed the secretary of the parliamentary group of the party Ioannis Plakiotakis as vice president.

Justifying his decision, Mr. Meimarakis said “I want to reassure the supporters of New Democracy that the reason I do this is for the unity of the party”
