An Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena was issued on Saturday morning by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS), according to which severe weather is forecast for Sunday, 01–02–2026, in most parts of the country, with heavy rain and thunderstorms. It is noted that, in addition to their high intensity, the rainfall will also be of long duration. In many areas, the intense phenomena will be accompanied by strong winds reaching 8 to 9 Beaufort and possibly localized hailstorms. Snowfall will occur in the mountainous areas of mainland Greece and in the northern mountainous and semi-mountainous regions, and from early Sunday afternoon also in low-altitude areas of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.

More specifically, locally heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast as follows:

Tomorrow, Sunday (01–02–2026)

a. Peloponnese: from the early morning hours until late afternoon.

b. Eastern Thessaly (regional units of Larissa and Magnesia, including the Sporades) and the regional units of Central Macedonia—Pieria, Imathia, and Chalkidiki—from the morning hours until late afternoon.

c. Crete (mainly the western and southern parts) from the morning hours.

d. Ionian Islands (mainly Lefkada, Kefalonia, Ithaca, and Zakynthos) from the early hours until late afternoon.

e. Epirus and Western Central Greece: from the morning hours until noon.

f. Western Thessaly (regional units of Karditsa and Trikala) from the morning hours until the afternoon.

g. Remaining areas of Central Macedonia: from the morning hours until the afternoon.
