Men a ‘health hazard’ for women in workplace, survey shows…

Increased stress levels

According to a new study, working with men in specific industries is bad for women. Researchers from Indiana University Bloomington found that female employees working in male-dominated areas such as science, tech and engineering had higher levels of stress. This survey confirms earlier studies that showed when women were in the minority in fields dominated by men they faced several challenges such as social isolation, sexual harassment, colleagues doubts’ about their competence, and fewer opportunities to climb up the ladder of promotion. ‘We find that such women are more likely to experience exposure to high levels of interpersonal, workplace stressors’, researcher Bianca Manago said in a statement. According to the findings, prolonged exposure to these factors leads to imbalances of specific chemicals in body’s natural fluctuations.
