Mouzalas: Government to allow refugees and migrants to work legally and have health cover

Building of new reception centres to finish by Christmas

Alternate Minister of Immigration Policy Ioannis Mouzalas revealed the Greek government intended to pass legislation granting refugees and migrants in camps the right to work, education, health care and housing. Mouzalas said the erection of more reception centres was proceeding in an effort to decongest the hotspots on the Greek islands and mainland Greece. The Minister stressed that there were currently over 1,200 unaccompanied children among the refugees, while he expressed the hope that the new hosting centres would be completed by Christmas. According to the official registration data he presented between June 9 and July 30, 27,592 refugees and migrants had been recorded, 57% of which were men, 43% women, while 1,225 were unaccompanied children.
