Mutiny! Anger at govt decree for transfer of public funds to BoG

Emergency meetings are being called following the decree

Greek opposition parties have reacted against the Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) government’s decision for public bodies to transfer funds to the Bank of Greece (BoG). The government is being criticized for laying its hands on taxpayers assets to serve its own needs in negotiation.

The decree, issued by the government, was published in the government gazette late on Monday and is evidence of the rising cash squeeze.

Among those protesting against those decisions are the conservative New Democracy (ND) party, Greek Communist Party (KKE), socialist (PASOK) party and Golden Dawn (GD).

Local government bodies are particularly concerned by the move, with the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) calling an emergency meeting under KEDE President George Patoulis. The meeting will focus on whether there are legal grounds for the decision to be cancelled.

The Regional Association of Greece (ENPE) will also be meeting with Kostas Agorastos at its head.
