Smart phones and tablets utilized for a better understanding of Ancient Greek culture

The Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with Simon Fraser University’s Stavros Niarchos Foundation Center for Hellenic Studies in Canada are creating new applications for smartphones and tablets that can be used by visitors to Greek museums and other cultural venues. These new apps, to be available at the App Store and Google Play, will allow for the promotion of Greek tourism and modern technology. Developed for the US exhibition, “The Greeks – Agamemnon to Alexander The Great”, the app covers the display so as to offer users insight into 5,000 years of artefacts. Another application about the Parthenon will be available at the App Store as well as an app for language learning. A pilot app will also be created for the Nationa Archeological Museum in Athens that will combine technologies of augmented and virtual reality for education purposes.
