New tragedy in the Aegean on Wednesday night: 8 children among 12 dead

The man could neither tell authorities where the wreck was and how many people had been on the ill-fated vessel

Another boat tragedy involving children was noted off the straits of the island of Samos. A boat carrying migrants attempting the perilous crossing capsized under unknown circumstances, resulting in 12 drownings. Among the dead were three little girls, five little boys, three men and a woman, however it is believed that the number of victims will rise as the investigation is continuing.

The Greek Coast Guard received news of the tragedy on Wednesday night and rushed to Kokkari beach where a man had just pulled himself ashore. All he could tell the coastal guard was that there was confusion on the dinghy transporting him and he could neither recall the number of passengers or the place of the accident.

Frontex vessels and Greek search efforts are continuing with the help of a helicopter.
