Over 2,000 immigrants stuck in Idomeni

FYROM’s government decided to permit the entrance only to refugees from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan

The situation in Idomeni, northern Greece continues to be chaotic since the number of immigrants who are eligible to pass the borders towards FYROM is increasing following the decision of FYROM’s government to permit the entrance only to refugees from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

In 6am about 5,000 people camped  in the area and only 3,000 come from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan who are recognized as refugees.

The other 2,000 people cannot claim for refugee status and are not allowed to enter FYROM since its government decided to permit the entrance only to refugees.

During the past 24 hours about 6,000 people have crossed the borders towards FYROM.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras held a special meeting with the relevant ministers to discuss on the refugee issue created at Idomeni, as well as the refugee flows and the needs arising from them in general.
