Poacher kills rare species of pelecanus in Evros

Pelecanus crispus is a world endangered bird species

A pelecanus crispus was found dead at Evros Delta National Park of in Trace, Northern Greece.

It was spotted by members of Hellenic Ornithological Society and Forest Service of Alexandroupolis when they were conducting a joint patrol.

Pelecanus crispus is a world endangered bird species and, according to the coordinator of the Management Body of the National Park, Eleni Makrigianni, Greece bears great responsibility, as it hosts more than 30% of its world population.

Mrs. Makrigianni also stated that this is a clear incident of poaching, since this bird does not look like any other species for which hunting is allowed.
