The time has come for the two candidates to see who will prevail in the elections for New Democracy leadership following a very long campaign which revealed party’s internal issues.
The polls are open from 7am to 7pm on Sunday for ND’s supporters to cast their vote and choose either Vangelis Meimarakis or Kyriakos Mitsotakis for their new leader.
According to New Democracy, 225,000 voters had casted their vote until 1pm recording a 20% drop in voter turn out compared to the same period in first round elections in December, while polls closed at Greek island of Kastelorizo, where 30 supporters of ND voted.
About 404,000 ND’s supporters who acquired their voting right by participating in the first round held on December 20 are expected to go to one of the 1290 polls and choose the best suitable for ND leadership, but also for turning the party into a credible alternative solution of a government power.
