Portugal has become the first team to advance to the France Euro2016 football semi finals, after defeating Poland on penalties 5-3 on goals (1-1 normal score and extra time). The Portuguese managed to bring the match on level terms on 33 minutes with a strike by 18yo midfielder, Renato Sanchez, after the Polish team had scored the opening goal 2 minutes into the first half with Robert Lewandowski. The two sides fought it out for the rest of the match and extra time without scoring another goal. A save by Rui Patricio from Jakub Blaszczykowski’s penalty allowed Ricardo Queresma to slot home the decisive kick in the shoutout that took his team into the semi finals.
