As expected, the Greek government of SYRIZA managed to ratify the Prespes Agreement in parliament on Friday amid widespread protests and despite staunch opposition. Despite having 145 seats in a 300-seat House, after the departure from the coalition government of the Independent Greeks (ANEL) over the deal with FYROM, SYRIZA gained a total of 153 votes for the bill with 146 voting against it.
The ratification effectively hands over the historically Greek term “Macedonia” to the northern neighbours of Greece.
