SYRIZA’s proposal to hold a referendum on the bill for the small PPC seems to becoming a risky political game.
For the time being Independent Greeks and some MPs of DIMAR have agreed with the main points of SYRIZA’s proposal. However, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) attempts to extricate itself from SYRIZA’s proposal and the risk of being damaged by this political game. KKE has submitted its own proposal calling Mr. Tsipras to agree with the withdrawal of the relevant European institutional framework.
Under these circumstances and after Mr. Tsipras having communicated with all political party leaders of the opposition, SYRIZA invited their MPs to have a meeting in Parliament next week in order to discuss the issue and find common ground. However, according to information, KKE has not accepted the invitation.
In addition, Independent Greeks and DIMAR seems to have responded positively to the proposal for a referendum although the final decision for DIMAR would be taken on Monday. Therefore, SYRIZA might gather up to 112 signatures instead of 120 that needs, just eight short so as to be able to begin the debate in the Parliament.
