SYRIZA leader Tsipras appeals to middle-class voters for a majority government

SYRIZA is trying to reassure the citizens with regard with the party’s tax policies

Newsroom January 19 09:50

Less than a week ahead of the Greek general elections, main opposition leader Alexis Tsipras openly asked the voters to offer his party a clear mandate, enabling SYRIZA to form a majority government on January 25.

In his speeches at pre-elections rallies over the weekend, Mr. Tsipras addressed voters in the centre of the political spectrum and in particular those who support ruling New Democracy (ND).

“Mr. Samaras thinks he owns the traditional conservative voters of the middle class. But he will be proven wrong,” the main opposition leader stressed, adding that “the small and medium entrepreneurs, the farmers, the craftsmen and all those ravaged by the brutal policies of the troika are not sheep. They may have placed their trust in ND in the past, but now they are ready to take the big step and vote differently.”

Moreover, Mr. Tsipras sent a clear message to ND voters, asking them to give SYRIZA the power to demand a better solution for our country, within the Euro zone.

In the meantime, SYRIZA is trying to reassure the citizens with regard to the party’s tax policies which will be implemented if the main opposition party comes to power, focusing mainly on the middle-class voters who are worried that they will be further burdened by a leftist government.

In his statements over the weekend, Mr. Tsipras also referred extensively to unemployment and put forward a proposal for a 751 euro minimum wage.
