The Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis and the Deputy Minister of Health, Erini Agapidaki responded immediately to the needs of residents in Ilion due to the a major fire that broke out at noon on Thursday in a spare parts store and spread to an apartment building, burning apartments.
The focus was on people who lost their homes and personal belongings within hours. Most are renters and are now having to deal with immediate practical needs, from clothing and essentials to finding new housing.
Michalis Chrysochoidis responded to residents’ concerns about the safety of the area and the protection of their properties and made sure that policing is stepped up to prevent looting in the damaged apartments.
For her part, Mrs Agapidaki discussed with them their immediate needs and is expected on Friday to have renewed contact with the affected people in order to initiate the next steps of support.
At the same time, the investigation of the case has already been upgraded by the investigative department of the Greek Police in order to immediately seek the causes of the fire.
