“This is a coup” against Greece hash-tag goes viral (pics)

Twitter users indignant against Germany

Newsroom July 14 01:05

After Greece managed to clinch a dramatic last hour agreement with its EU partner-creditors in a grueling 17-hour meeting in Brussels, pieces of information about the atmosphere of the talks between Greek PM Tsipras and his European counterparts started to emerge through reporters covering the Summit. As snippets or reports of the deal started to surface it became apparent it was far from being an ‘honorable compromise’. Some called it a compete capitulation by the Greek government, others went so far as to characterize the minutes before the deal was announced as an attempt by the EU institutions as a ‘coup’ against the Greek government. The twitter hash-tag ‘This is a coup’ topped the trending list in Germany and went viral for a while. Users were angry on the terms being imposed on Greece. BBC’s Anne-Marie Tomchak responsible for the network’s twitter Trending said “People were lashing out at what they see as an unfair deal”. Many using the hash-tag were particularly critical on Germany’s stance comparing it to the Nazi occupation of Greece during World War Two.
