According to Human Rights organisations over 200 citizens have been killed by Turkish military operation in the south-east region of the country, an area largely populated by Turkish citizens of Kurdish origin. The Turkish military has unleashed large scale operations in the area over the past days. On Tuesday the Turkish army announced it killed 114 Kurdish rebels in the city of Idil in eastern Turkey. Turkey has been executing military operations in the area since summer of 2015, while it has intensified its activities against the Kurdish rebels, which the Turkish state considers terrorists. Both the US and Russia consider the YPG (People’s Protection Units) Kurdish rebels in Syria as the most effective force against Daesh (Islamic State). Turkey on the other hand, has been reportedly supporting some of the Islamist groups within Syria in Ankara’s efforts to topple the Assad government.
