Davutoglu is glad we are neighbors

The Greek and Turkish delegations will attend the bilateral, Greco-Turkish cooperation summit

Turkish PM Ahmet Davutoglu arrived in Athens on Friday at noon in order to partake in the 3rd Greek-Turkish Cooperation Council, which will take place over two days.

 

The aircraft which was carrying him and his staff landed at “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport a few minutes after 15.30, while the Turkish PM was welcomed by a Greek delegation under Public Order minister, Vasilis Kikilias.

Immediately after his arrival, Mr. Davutoglu went to the Presidential Mansion, where the President of the Republic, Karolos Papoulias, welcomed him.

Mr. Papoulias told the Turkish PM that “we must be good neighbors”, something which Davutoglu agreed on.

The Turkish PM also added that “Everything can change, but the geographic location, since there are only a few examples of neighbors with cultural characteristics and good relations”, he said and invited Mr. Papoulias to visit Turkey.

At this time, Mr. Davutoglu is meeting with Greek PM Antonis Samaras. After the meeting, an enlarged talk between the Greek and Turkish delegations will follow, including the Foreign Ministers of the two countries.

According to information, the meeting between the Prime Ministers and their delegations will discuss many Greek-Turkish issues and topics.

Also during the meeting, the delegations will examine the progress made during the last meeting which took place in Turkey, while there are expectations that new agreements of cooperation which will further trade and financial agreements.

However, the visit of the Turkish delegation has forced police to ban protests in Athens.
