Twitter firestorm: Can somebody please explain “No” to Juncker?

The many sides of “NO”!

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker made several comments at the plenary of the European Parliament on Tuesday. He labeled the result of the Greek referendum result as an “irrelevant circus” and questioned whether “no” really meant “no” after 61% of Greeks voted against the tough austerity measures presented to Greece by its creditors from the European Commission, European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Juncker’s comments fueled a firestorm on Twitter with the hashtags #ExplainNotoJuncker and #Oxi…

There seems to be confusion as to what Greece’s said ‘no’ to depending on which side of the political fence you sit on:

* No to austerity

* No to the euro (regardless of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ profuse dismissals of this)

* No to everything we know and security offered by saying “Yes”

* No to new agreements for pension/wage cuts, tax hikes etc.

* No to no democracy with people finally having a say in Greece

* No to further bailouts where the money goes to the banks as the humanitarian crisis spirals out of control

* No to Germany (just look at the poster)

POSTER
* No to “yes” because look where all the previous “yeses” got us!

* No to previous corrupt Greek governments

* No to injustice with people in Greece starving while wealthy Greeks withhold tax

* No to lies, broken promises and propaganda regardless as to whether it comes from the government of the media or government

* No by those who have no jobs, no future, nothing to lose by saying “no”
