1,100 immigrants to arrive in Piraeus – Over 6,000 people packed on Greek islands

Only 500 refugees have crossed the Greek-FYROM buffer zone over the last 24 hours

The number of refugees and immigrants arriving in Greece continues to rise, while thousands of people are forced to live under the worst and unhygienic conditions without food or place to sleep.

About 1,100 more people are expected to reach Piraeus port and about 400 people spent the night at Victoria Square, Athens, which has become a temporary camp, while only 500 refugees managed to cross Greek-FYROM borders. In the meantime, Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Kos and Leros are suffocating since more than 6,000 immigrants and refugees are waiting there to be transferred to mainland, while refugee flow from the Turkish coast continue unabated.

A total of 500 refugees have crossed the Greek-FYROM buffer zone over the last 24 hours, while, about 11,000 refugees have camped at Idomeni and more than 4,000 refugees are hosted in special facilities at Nea Kavala and Herso, Kilkis.

On Thursday morning, Blue Star 1 docked at Piraeus port carrying 580 people from Chios and Mytilene, while Diagoras ferry is expected to arrive later today carrying 515 people from Leros and Kalymnos.
