In the only country in the world where female military service is mandatory, the Tel Aviv government hardens its stance to all that refuse to participate, threatening them with prison time.

In Israel, the military service duration for men is three years, and for women, two years. The sights of the Israeli government have already been turned upon 70 Israeli teenages who refuse to enlist protesting against war crimes that the government is carrying out on a daily basis, at the expense of the occupied Palestinian territories.

The high school students have already sent a letter to the Israeli government, to express their refusal to serve their country. The government’s reactionw as immediate. It clarified that they are in danger of finding themselves behind bars, if they do not join the army, as reported by the british Telegraph newspaper. Recently, Israeli military leadership admitted that the numer of men and women who refuse mandatory service has increased. Based on official estimates, 25% of men and 43% of women refused to serve their mandatory service.

Nearly 2.5 million of Israelis hold military positions, serving in the army, the navy, the air force, the coast guard and secret services. Included in those are women, since Israel is the only country where the “weaker sex” serves a mandatory service.
