Gabriel Garcia Marquez dies

Nobel prize-winning Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez died in Mexico aged 87

The journalist Familiar Fernanda announced the death of Gabriel Garcia Marquez through Twitter saying that “Gabriel Garcia Marquez died. His wife and children, Mercedes Rodrigo and Gonzalo, authorized me to report it”.

He was 87 years old and suffered from cancer. He had been discharged from the hospital where he was hospitalized last week, and his family decided that there was no need Marquez to undergo a new treatment. He died peacefully at his home, next to his beloved.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez was born in Colombia but lived in Mexico since 1961. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982.

He was born on March 6, 1927 in the village Aracataca, Colombia. In 1947 he started studying law and political sciences at the University of Bogota. During his first year of studies his first short story “The Third Resignation” was published in a newspaper. In 1948 he moved to Carthage of the West Indies and worked as a journalist in newspapers and magazines.
