The significant improvement in bilateral relations that has occured in recent years between Greece and Israel and the similarity between the two countries was emphasized by the two Foreign Secretaries, K. Gerontopoulos and Zeev Elkin, during their meeting at noon today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Israeli Deputy Minister said that Greece can play an important role as a “Bridge” between Israel and the EU while he mentioned the peace process in the Middle East, with emphasis on the signing on April 23rd, 2014, of the reconciliation agreement between FATAH (PLO) and Hamas.
Mr. Gerontopoulos also informed his counterpart that Greece supports efforts to further negotiations and reiterated the EU’s position, according to which both parties are invited to avoid actions that undermine the progress of the talks.
“We believe that there can be a cooperation with Israel, on all fronts, such as trade, scientific research, culture and that Greece can offer to Israel experience and expertise in tourism and shipping”.
