The main opponents of George Kaminis for the City of Athens enter the final stretch that leads to the polls on May 18, gathering their forces and “narrowing the gap” between them and the current mayor, which is limited to six points, according to a new GPO’s poll broadcasted by the Mega channel ‘s show “Anatropi”.

On the other hand, the Mayor of Thessaloniki Yiannis Boutaris and Regional Governor of Attica Yiannis Sgouros, according to the same survey, maintain a big lead both in the first and the second round, as they are very popular and their work is supported by the electorate of their areas.

In the first municipality of the country, incumbent mayor George Kaminis leads with 20.8%, a percentage reduced by 1.6% compared to the previous survey of the same company. The official candidate of New Democracy Aris Spiliotopoulos follows with 15%, increasing his rate by 1.5% and Gavriil Sakellaridis (SYRIZA) is closing in with 14.1%, also achieving a 1.6% increase. In the fourth place with an elevated rate of 12.5% we find Elias Kasidiaris (Golden Dawn), who has increased his reate by 3.5%. Former mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis, the “New Democracy’s rebel” follows in the fifth place with 10.4% and then we have Nikos Sofianos (KKE) at 8.3%, Vassilis Kapernanos (ANEL) at 3.2% and Petros Constantinou (ANTARSYA) at 1.2%.

Most of the Athenians (a percentage of 63.5%) have a negative opinion about the work of the current mayor, which is viewed positively only by the 34.9% of the voters in the capital, according to the poll. However, according to the data so far, Mr. Kaminis, should he advance in the second round, will probably defeat his opponents.

Yiannis Sgouros leads with 5.3%
In the Attica region, the incumbent Regional Governor Yiannis Sgouros (PASOK) is leading with 23.1%, followed by Rena Dourou (SYRIZA) at 17.8%, George Koumoutsakos (New Democracy) at 10.1%, Thanasis Pafilis (KKE) at 9.5%, Pavlos Haikalis (ANEL) at 8.2%, Elias Panagiotaros (Golden Dawn) at 5.1%, Petros Mandouvalos (EPAL) at 3%, Thanos Tzimaros (DRASI) at 2.7%, Mary Giannakaki (DIMAR) at 1.8% and Dimitra Koutsouba (ANTARSYA) at 1.3%.
