Eleven concrete measures for the relief of Piraeus citizens affected by the crisis and the strengthening of “have-nots” were announced by Mayoral candidate Yiannis Moralis.
Mr. Moralis specifically stated:
1. We will demolish the “Tower” at once and construct a multi-purpose center which will house clubs, community organizations and charitable activities of the city as well as the International Shipping center of Piraeus.
2.We will ensure that Piraeus Courts will stay in Piraeus and they will be housed in Ralleiou Street’s building.
3.We will ensure Piraeus as a destination for thousands of its visitors, with benefits to the local economy and the regeneration of the commercial world. Piraeus will become the Home Port, achieving a cooperation with international tourism organizations representatives.
4. A hundred new Start-ups will be housed in the former Retsina factory area, providing free services such as, consulting, accounting, legal and administrative.
5.We will upgrade and redesign municipal buses with 10 new mini-buses which will connect each neighborhood with City Rail, Metro and Tram stations, administrative buildings and city hospitals.
6.We will provide all our fellow senior citizens with a comprehensive program of preventive medicine and primary care in all centers of Care and Solidarity (KAΠΗ) within the municipality.
7.We will provide any woman, unemployed, uninsured or low income, with counseling and preventive mammograms, Pap tests and osteoporosis exams. We will also establish a network of solidarity and counseling on diabetes, as well as a support network for cancer patients and their families.
8. We will immediately launch three day-long Nurseries to support young couples, working mothers and female entrepreneurs.
9.We will construct a new modern swimming pool in the Sakelliona camp, athletic installations in the surroundings of the Peace and Friendship Stadium (ΣΕΦ) and a shooting area in a sited and limited area within the municipality.
10.We want Piraeus to become the European Capital of Culture in 2021 with a view to implement an integrated cultural and tourist identity for the city. We will also claim the return of the Poseidonia event, for 2016.
11.We support the public nature of the port and will remain actively involved in the PPA, to claim contributory funds in order to redevelop all of Piraeus’ neighborhoods.
