Due to economic crisis, property prices decreased reaching the prices applied in 80’s. In some cases, new buildings in Athens and Thessaloniki are sold at less than 1,000 euros per square meter.
As for old houses in different areas of Athens and in other towns of Greece are sold up to 100 euros per square meter.
According to “Ethonos” newspaper, the owners of old buildings of over 30 years old try to sell them at any rate, since they cannot pay the heavy property taxes.
The article presents several cases which are recorded by specialists of real estate market and involve houses in very poor conditions that are sold at a price equal to a selling price of a used car!
Specifically, there are cases such as in Chania, Crete, where a 55 sq.metres appartment built in 1965 is sold 5,000 million, ie less than 100 euros per square meter!
At Agiou Meletiou, Athens, a 38 sq.meters appartement with a garden of 65 sq.metres in good condition is sold at 7500 euros!
