Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the ceremony that marks the 70 years since the landing of Allied forces in Normandy on June 6, said the Russian ambassador in Paris on Thursday.
The D-Day anniversary ceremony will be an opportunity for Mr Putin to meet with Western leaders, including U.S. President Barack Obama, for the first time since the beginning of the Ukrainian crisis in February, when Viktor Yanukovych, the pro-Russian president of the country was ousted.
