The leader of Democratic Left (DIMAR), Fotis Kouvelis, lashed out on New Democracy and SYRIZA, accusing both parties of presenting an improved virtual reality and of resorting to doomsday talk.
Kouvelis, addressing the Parliament’s plenary session during the debate on the Medium-term programme, noted that “you cannot do politics with extortions” and called on Greeks to support DIMAR so that the party would be able to contribute to the progressive course of the country.
“The country is in the midst of a hard, long lasting and full of hurdles course. Optimism is a positive element. But this is one thing and describing a “virtual reality” over the state of the economy and society just to serve political purposes, is quite another,” he said.
“There can be no ‘Success story’ with unemployment having reached 30 percent and youth unemployment 60%. It is just as wrong, though, to resort to a description that dogmatically uses doomsday talk and underestimates the changes the country really needs, the European environment and the true production potential of the country,” Mr Kouvelis added.
He also referred to the urgent need for the country to seek a new agreement with its partners-lenders on the basis of a realistic account of reality.
He also claimed that the new Memorandum is based on the same conservative policies that have led to today’s impasse.
“It is based, just as the previous plans, on overoptimistic estimates, which are not founded on realistic conditions. It is a five-year (programme) of absolute sloppiness and dishonesty,” he concluded.
