According to an article published in the Sunday edition of Ethnos newspaper, the Emir of Qatar, who bought the small Ionian island Oxia for 5.600.00 euros is planning to transform this beautiful corner of the Ionian Sea into a Greek version of Capri island.
Qatar Emir Al Thani has great plans for the 1,236-acre uninhabited island of Oxia, the articles says.
The development plan, elaborated by the Stelios Agiostratitis A&A Associates -Architects & Engineers company includes luxury hotels, bungalows, two tourist villages, a shopping mall, an artistic community, marinas, a heliport, galleries, art museums etc.
The concept design was first presented to the Emir’s advisor on investment issues in Doha, Qatar. Then the Greek team presented “Oxia Art Island” to both the former Emir of Qatar, Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani and his successor Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani.
According to the article, the 34 year old Emir, who succeeded his father to the throne in June, is very enthusiastic about the project in Oxia and wanted the construction works to start immediately.
The investment budget is approximately 250 to 300 million euros. According to estimates, the investment will provide about 700 jobs at the peak of the construction season and about 200-250 jobs during the operation of the island to workers from surrounding areas and from Ithaca and Kefalonia.
The development will be mainly on the southwestern side of the beach, which has low altitude, while a large part of the north of the island will remain undeveloped. The masterplan presented by the newspaper shows several areas with different activities such as villages with different types of housing, hospitality and recreational areas, cultural sites and coastal zone with marine installations.
