GPO's opinion poll: New Democracy leads in national elections whereas SYRIZA in European elections

New Democracy gets the highest percentage in national elections - The main voting criterion for European elections is political stability

Main opposition SYRIZA leads slightly over New Democracy in the European elections, according to an opinion poll conducted by GPO for private TV MEGA.

According to the poll results, SYRIZA leads among those questioned with 21.5%, followed by New Democracy with 21%, the newly founded party To Potami with 8.5%, Golden Dawn with 7.5%, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) with 7%, Elia with 6%, Independent Greeks with 3.7% and Democratic Left (DIMAR) with 3%. The undecided voters reach 13.8%.

Regarding the voting criteria, 51.8% of the respondents said that they will vote in European elections to contribute to the country’s stability, whereas 38.7% said that they will choose aiming for a new government.

However, according to the same opinion poll, New Democracy leads with 24.5% in national elections followed by SYRIZA with 23.1%, KKE with 7.2%, To Potami with 7%, Golden Dawn with 6.9%, ELIA with 5.9%, Independent Greeks with 4% and DIMAR with 2.8%. The undecided voters reach 12.1%.

In response to who is most suitable for prime minister, current Prime Minister Antonis Samaras was chosen by 44.6% of the respondents, followed by SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras with 29%, while 24.7% said “none of above”.

Also, according to the results of the survey, the majority of respondents, 69.4 %, want Greece to remain in the eurozone at all costs, while 93% want it without new memorandum. However, 67 % do not believe the government’s announcement and believe that there will be a new memorandum, while 31.5 % believe that the country exits from the crisis.

In majority, citizens judge negatively government’s efforts to tackle the crisis, 36.1%. Also, 22.6 %, agree with New Democracy’s proposals for economy compared to 18.6 % who agree with the proposals of SYRIZA. 25.7 % of the respondents do not agree with the proposals of any party.

However, the majority of respondents, 69.4 %, judge negatively SYRIZA’s tactics, whereas 29.3 % agree with it. Also, 71.7 % said that they believe that he is not ready to be Prime Minister, while 60.4 % disagree that European elections have a referendum character on whether the current government should remain and 56.3 % do not agree that we should go for elections, if SYRIZA comes first in the elections.

Also, 56.3 % argue that despite the election results, early elections should be avoided.

Moreover, 51.2 % of the respondents believe that PASOK should withdraw from the government scheme if Elia party does not receive sufficient percentage in the elections, while 42.1 % disagrees.

According to another opinion poll conducted by Pulse for “To Pontiki”, SYRIZA is ahead by 1.5% on voting intention, but the difference between the two parties is reduced by half, while To Potami and Elia increased their percentages.

In voting intention SYRIZA leads the race with 24% ( +0.5 % compared to the last week’s survey of the same company) followed by New Democracy with 22.5 % ( +1 %), Golden Dawn with 9%, Elia and To Potami with 8%, KKE 7%, Independent Greek 4% and DIMAR 2.5%, while the undecided voters reach 7.5%.
