Tsipras challenges Samaras for a debate and says that he represents the past

Mr Tsipras seems to have set the bar of expectations a bit lower for municipal elections – unlike the european elections for which he noted that the results will be a surprise for a lot of people. He also made sure to send a message of lower expectations from a left-wing government by saying that it will take some time to  make restitution for past injustices, “I have not a magic wand, it will take time” he noted.

He pledged that he will hold a referendum on the loan agreement and not on the euro, when SYRIZA forms a government. He expressed the belief that there is no issue of withdrawal from eurozone and clarified that this is not an option for SYRIZA because such a development would mean the collapse of the common currency.

The leader of SYRIZA challenged Mr Samaras asking again to participate in a debate. Referring to the dispute over the slogan “New Greece” Mr Tsipras stressed that Samaras cannot appear as a representative of the new, he’s been in the political scene for many years, he was a minister 23 years ago so he is the “past”.

Regarding the recent FT article on Cannes meeting he described Samaras as Mr Barroso’s and “Europalace’s” puppet and the same accusations addressed to Mr. Venizelos.
Commenting on national elections, Tsipras said that whenever they be held, his party will be self-reliant.

Tsipras also accused the government and its communications staff for the way they deal with the crisis in the country. This government, he said, has cut incomes, caused an outflow of deposits from banks and caused a humanitarian crisis.

Commenting on Tsipras interview, government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou said that “Tsipras revealed his true objectives.”

“The opposition leader called on citizens to vote in the European elections with the aim not to elect MEPs but to overthrow the government and cause (national) elections.”

He clearly revealed that he himself is a lever of political trouble and destabilisation in the country. The people will judge him,” Kedikoglou said.
