According to a new opinion poll conducted by Alco for “protothema.gr”, SYRIZA leads by 1.4 % in voting intention and the advantage of Antonis Samaras as Prime Minister against Alexis Tsipras is confirmed once more.
A few days before the elections, Greeks appear divided regarding the criterion on which they will vote, while unclear vote remains at remarkably high levels and undecided voters reach 12%.
According to the results of the poll conducted from 10 to 14 May, 41% of the respondents said that their choice in European elections will be based primarily on the desire to overthrow the government, while 37 % said that they will vote for the country’s political stability.
41% of the respondents believe that Greece walks on the recovery path, whereas 37% believe the opposite. On the contrary, 23% said that Greek economy is better today than six months age while one out of seven people say the exact opposite.
Voting intention
SYRIZA leads the race with 23.4 % gaining 1.1% compared to a previous poll conducted by Alco. New Democracy is second with 22% ( +0.2 % ), while Golden Dawn is third with 7.3 % ( +0.3 % ) followed by To Potami with 7%, Elia with 5.1 % ( +0.3 % ), Greek Communist Party (KKE) with 5%, Independent Greeks with 4.6 % ( +1.2 % ) and Democratic Left (DIMAR) with 2.4 % ( 0.2 %).
Among the smaller parties that participate in European elections, LAOS, the Union for the Country and the People and Ecologist party gained 1%, ANTARSYA gained 0.9 % , National Front gained 0.5 % whereas other parties gained 1.9 %.
The percentage of undecided voters remains high reaching 11.4 % ( +0.3 % ), whereas the trend for abstinence seems to be lower reaching 3.4 % ( -1.8 % ) and blank vote gained 1.9 % (-1.4 % ) .
Regarding the popularity of political leaders, Antonis Samaras (New Democracy) leads with 34% followed by Stavros Theodorakis (To Potami) with 29% and Alexis Tsipras (SYRIZA) with 28%. Fotis Kouvelis (DIMAR) gained 23%, Dimitris Koutosympas (KKE) gained 20 % , President of the Independent Greeks received 16 %, Evangelos Venizelos (PASOK) received 13 % and 8 % chose the leader of Golden Dawn Nikos Michaloliakos.
