The results recorded by exit polls for the other regions of Greece are different from those shown in Attica region, as it seems that candidates of SYRIZA gain disproportionately small percentages.

On most cases candidates of the coalition government (PASOK, ND) lead the race while the candidates of SYRIZA won’t participate in the second round.

According to the exit polls, in Peloponnese the current prefect Petros Tatoulis receives 43.1 % and he will probably compete next Sunday with Giorgos Dedes, who receives 20.4 %. If these results are confirmed, then Odysseas Voudouris will not participate in the second round.

In Thessaly, SYRIZA’s MP Iro Dioti is 26 units behind Costas Agorastos who receives 42.5 %. Mrs Dioti receives 16.9 % and seems to be threatened by the center-left candidate who is a breath away from the second round with 16.8 %.

In the Region of Crete, SYRIZA’s MP, Michael Kritsotakis, is fighting with the candidate of the New Democracy, Seraphim Tsokas gaining 22.7 % and 21.2 %, respectively. At the same time the former deputy of PASOK, Stavros Arnaoutakis, leads the race with 40.4 %.

The candidate of SYRIZA in Central Macedonia, Despina Charalambidou fights for participating in the second round with 15.6 % whereas the candidate of New Democracy, Yannis Ioannidis, gets 16%. However, they are both far behind the current Prefect Apostolos Tzitzikostas who gets 35.1% .

Government’s estimates

In other regions of Greece – except from Attica region- the candidates of SYRIZA do not get good percentages. According to members of New Democracy, in most regions the candidates of SYRIZA are in third or fourth place – except Crete and apparently Attica.

According to colleagues of Samaras, in Attica region the percentage that Rena Dourou is gaining is less than the one that SYRIZA received in the elections of June 2012 and is also less than the sum of the percentages Sgouros and Koumoutsakos receive together.

The same applies to Athens Municipality, says New Democracy.

So in conclusion, they say that there is no momentum for SYRIZA, while the ND leadership recognizes that in some cases they might have chosen the wrong politicians.
