The HRADF wants to take advantage of the two and only beaches of Elafonisos, Simos and Sarakiniko, and as such will be auctioning them off. The oftentimes characterized as “paradise on earth” by quite a few international tourist offices is being prepared to pass onto private hands.
In particular, the HRADF is offering 175 of white sand beaches for sale, following their levy as state property (Property Code 382).
The above, combined with Article 14 of Law 3986/2011, with the sale of beach property, can be acquired by a private individual with the exclusive right for use of the beach and sea for 50 years.
If a buyer is found for this coastal area, they may be able to use this area for their own personal use, barring it from the public or anyone else for 50 years!
In the above, the law does not preclude for anyone to watch the beach from afar, but access will only be allowed for the “investor’s” clients.
If, in continuation of the above, a “private water park” is also created, instead of a public water park that the Elafonisos municipality would be running, the visitors will not even be able to approach the beaches by sea.
The reactions of residents are intense, since they do not wish to see an investor grabbing the public lands, while environmental organizations are already talking about an ecological disaster (the area has been designated as “Natura”).
Apart from the two Elafonisos beaches, in the same “sale” that the HRADF put up, are included, inter alia, large areas in Koronisia, Kalamitsi in Halkidiki, Nea Propontida and Nea Fokaia, Yialova and Kavala.
This list also includes dozens of properties in Plaka, three-storey and five-storey buildings in various parts of Athens, plots in Nafplion, Mesologgi and Xenia hotels.
