“This morning, we received a request from the Minister of the Interior to investigate the methodology exit polls conducted on May 18th”, stated SEDEA chairman, Christina Karabela.
As she notes, the Association immediately responded and began the procedure laid down by the strict self-regulation framework, which has been applied both domestically and internationally, for years.
She added: “The exit poll is a survey based on a sample. Our surveys produce approximate estimates of reality”.
“We understand that this rough estimate of reality might not serve the communication needs of TV channels in the three-hour 19.00-22.00 pm slot on Sunday, i.e. the need for having a prior knowledge of the result of elections”.
“Exit polls are tools used worldwide for the study of the structure, relationships, travel, and demographic composition of the election results. As such, it is not only needed, but also irreplaceable”.
“This is why they are systematically carried out in all advanced democratic countries”.
“Someday we will, hopefully, use this as a tool in its real role, and not strictly for the production of a television program”.
