Prime Minister Antonis Samaras seemed elated by his visit to the archaeological site of Dodona, stressing that “Greece has such beautiful places, and we should take advantage of them, as a people, to capitalize on our land’s beauty”.
The PM added that “now that we enter another rhythm of development, we have another unique opportunity, to follow a program, step by step, without too many words, but actions”.
Mr. Samaras reported on his impressions, stating that Dodona is a place where “culture, potential, tourism and our own agricultural products all meet and meld together into a total which can be advantageous. At the same time, it is also a place of reflection, as one looks over these pictoresque and peaceful vistas”.
Mr. Samaras recalled that the ancient Dodona theater is the first project which joined the European NSRF and which left the visiting Austrian commissioner who visited it, speechless.
The Prime Minister was welcome to the ancient theater by the Secretary of Decentralized Administration Vicky Eftaxa, mayor of Dodona Yiorgos Katsanakis and the head of the 17th Prefecture of Classical Antiquities, Kostas Soueref.
Mr. Soueref briefed Mr. Samaras on the progress of the works that have begun in the area since 2011, with NSRF funds, as well as the new perspective created therein, linking the project with the new developmental programming.
It should be noted that Dodona, along with four other ancient theaters of Epirus are a “cultural route”, which has been pre-approved for the NSRF’s next evaluation.
