Mr. Karolos Papoulias, President of the Hellenic Republic met with Deputy prime minister Evangelos Venizelos at 1 pm.
As Mr. Venizelos said to the reporters, he presented Mr Papoulias recommendations and messages for national unity, as part of a collective effort to exit the crisis.
“We must try to unite the nation again,” said the Deputy Prime Minister and President of PASOK to the President of the Hellenic Republic.
“The message sent by the citizens is that they do not want this symbolic civil war pursued by some,” stressed Mr. Venizelos and went on to present to the President of the Republic thoughts and suggestions towards national unity and social consensus.
The main conclusion drawn from the triple elections, said the president of PASOK, was that it is imperative to maintain stability in the country, to ensure the best possible starting point for our collective effort, as a nation, to exit the crisis.
Mr. Venizelos conveyed Mr Papoulias the greetings of French President Francois Hollande and, referring to current political events in Europe, he said that we must follow the institutional processes and the candidate of the European People’s Party (EPP), Jean Claude Juncker, should be the first to attempt to form the required majority, as this group won the elections.
Papoulias – Venizelos meeting takes place two days after the president of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras called for early elections “as soon as possible, in a coordinated and orderly manner” during his visit to the Presidential Palace in Athens.
At 04:30 pm, Mr. Venizelos will hold a press conference on current foreign policy issues while tomorrow, Thursday, at 6 pm, Mr. Venizelos will meet with the Prime Minister Mr. Antonis Samaras.
