Deputy PM Evangelos Venizelos, on his meeting with the PM, stated: “We had a productive discussion on the election results and the messages the Greeks sent us. It is our duty to respond to the citizens’ needs”.
Mr. Venizelos spoke of security and stability in order to complete the exit from the crisis, and reiterated that he would undertake a series of initiatives supported by the Prime Minister.
The government reshuffle requires preparation and it will not happen soon, as Mr. Venizelos stated. He continued by underlining that the Prime Minister left in the middle of the meeting since he had an urgent social obligation to attend to, while Mr. Venizelos continued, speaking with Justice Minister Mr. Athanasiou and State Minister Mr. Stamatis on issues of civil procedure.
Mr. Venizelos also stated that they did not go into an in-depth discussion on the issue of replacing the Governor of the Bank of Greece, and assured that the government understood what the citizens told them on election day.
He noted that PASOK is a guarantor of stability and progressiveness, while he underlined that when speaking of “progressive stability”, it does not mean stagnation.
Government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou followed shortly after, with an informal briefing to reporters stating that during the meeting of the two government partners (and coalition party leaders), the election result and the climate of political stability was assessed and understood.
Messrs. Samaras and Venizelos agreed to accelerate the work of the government and recognized the need to take corrective measures in order to remedy injustices.
Mr. Samaras also informed Mr. Venizelos about his results from his recent Brussels trip, where he noted the need for development initiatives within the Eurozone, to his partners.
Regarding the government reshuffle, Mr. Kedikoglou stated that preparation is required and the obligations of the Greek presidency will also be taken into account.
