Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras attempts to send a message of stability, continuity and determination and insists on the progress of reforms, corrective actions and relief measures for citizens and new external help – according to the commitments of European partners – for achieving the objectives of the program”.
The Finance Ministry issued a statement yesterday on the occasion of the comments of the opposition which were triggered by the statements of Wolfgang Schaeuble who said that Greece will remain in the Eurozone only if it continues the necessary reforms.
Mr Yannis Stournaras responded directly and clearly mainly to Mr Schaeuble and European challengers, who are putting pressure on the government and the Prime Minister posing again the dilemma “inside or outside the Eurozone”.
1st: “The question regarding the participation of Greece in the Eurozone has been answered definitively and irrevocably and has been supported by the bloody sacrifices of Greek people”
2nd: There will be no need for a new loan (and thus new memorandum), if the government is allowed to use the surplus funds of the EFSF for the banks.
3rd: Greece should continue the reforms, not because Mr. Schaeuble asks for more “blood” to keep Greece in the Eurozone, as it is clear from his statements on Focus, but because “Greece is on the right path proceeding to the reforms required for the benefit of Greek people,”,
4th : There is room for tax cuts, but it will take time and will be combined with the country’s performance.
