The leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) Nigel Farage predicted that Greece will leave the Euro, allowing the destination to devalue its currency and become a”hot” tourist destination.
Speaking at the annual tourism conference ITT in Malta, Farage even said that he will book a ‘package’ holiday in Greece by a British travel agency, when Greece exits the Eurozone, according to Travel Weekly.
Specifically, Farage described the euro as a “disaster” and said that Greece will leave euro and return to the drachma currency.
“They will have a massive devaluation, probably by 75%, and you will be quite busy because Greece will become the number one holiday destination in the world,” he said.
Mr Farage added that “When that happens I have publicly pledged to go to my local travel agent and book a seven-night holiday package in Greece.”
He also said that Greek economy has contracted by 28% since 2008, a figure that exceeds the 16% of the British economy endured after the World War Two which led to the creation of the welfare state and National Health.
“There is absolutely no prospect of any improvement at all because the Mediterranean now is going into a deflationary spiral,” he mentioned.
According to the British politician, the idea of the euro was sold in the world on the basis that travelers would not have to change their money, but he believes that one of the joys of travelling is experiencing new things such as changing British pounds to French francs or Spanish pasetas.
