CIA seems to have joined the social media “family”. As was expected, their first, humorous tweet, swept the internet.
As we can see below, the first tweet says : “We can neither confirm nor deny that this is our first tweet”.
Within the first two hours of posting, this message by the CIA was retweeted 85000 times and CIA acquired over 105,000 followers.
Besides Twitter, CIA created a Facebook account on Friday as well.
Facebook and Google, however, among other Internet giants are now called upon to respect users’ privacy, according to a decision by the European Commission.
What does the decision entail, however? Companies based outside the EU must comply with the data protection rules established by the European Union, as agreed on Friday by the EU Justice ministers.
The agreement forces internet giants such as Google and Facebook to comply with EU legislation as a first step towards a wider reform being attempted to strengthen privacy laws.
Meanwhile British telecoms giant, Vodafone revealed that some governments had direct access to its network in order to intercept customers’ communications.
