Optimistic that the “Macedonia” airport in Thessaloniki, Greece can break the “barrier” of five million passengers by the end of 2014 or early 2015, appeared today Airport Manager, Mr. Achilleas Topouzis, speaking to ANA-MPA on the sidelines of the 1st airport fee Regulators forum, that takes place in the city under the European Union and the Greek Presidency Council of the EU.
In that case, a race is expected by 600,000 passengers compared with 2013 when the passengers that arrived were about 4 , 4,000,000.
The first positive samples from the first five months of 2014 have showed an increase of about 120,000 passengers. According to Mr.Topouzi, if the current growth rate is maintained, this year’s summer season will close with an increase of about 10% compared to last year.
However, at the same time, the Airport Manager warns that a greater increase in arrivals / departures will “complicate” the services of the airport as the management of passengers, as well as the already existing passenger terminal building has exceeded its limits, bringing once again in the spotlight the request to create a new terminal.
