Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras has been criticized by 53 deputies of his party for failure to show unity in the decision-making process of the party and for mismanagement during the recent elections.
This criticism comes from the left faction of his group and includes delegates such as Efkleidis Tsakalotos, Thodoris Dritsas, Iro Dioti, Theano Fotiou, Vasiliki Katrivanou, Tasia Hristodoulopoulou as well as other prominent members who are calling for the party to take a leftist turn. Even though there has been a sense of dissatisfaction simmering in the left faction of the group for at least three months, the scale of this initiative surprised Mr. Tsipras.
To allow time for consultations, a meeting scheduled with the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA for today has been postponed while the planned Central Committee meeting this weekend gets new content for discussion. There is even speculation for changes of roles within the party as well as decisions to be made regarding the group’s political direction.
Mr. Tsipras’ first answer to the 53 members will be given tonight during his talk at the presentation of James K. Galbraith, Stuart Holland and Yanis Varoufakis’ book entitled “A Modest Proposal for Resolving the Euro Crisis”. The presentation will take place at the garden of the Byzantine and Christian Museum at 8pm this evening.
