It seems like yesterday and yet five years have gone by since the day the Acropolis Museum first opened its doors to the public.

Since its opening, the Museum has welcomed about six and a half million visitors, 25% of which have visited the museum twice. Several famous personalities had the opportunity to admire its treasures, from European officials and politicians to Hollywood actresses.

It should be noted that recently, in honor of International Museum Day celebrated on May 18, the editors of online architectural magazine Archdaily included Acropolis Museum in a list of twenty amazing museums around the world, which according to them are “well worth visiting again”. This is only one of the numerous distinctions the museum has received in its 5 years of operation.

British Museum wants Parthenon Sculptures to be shown in Greece but shared with London

On the occasion of its fifth birthday on Friday 20 June 2014, the Acropolis Museum will commence an ambitious digital restoration program of the Parthenon sculptures. Horse riders of the west frieze will be presented in 3D digital images with additions of copper weapons and bridles, with alternating light and color testing.

On this day, the exhibition areas will remain open from 8 a.m. until 12 midnight. The restaurant will be open during the same hours. On this occasion, admission to the Museum will be reduced (3 euros) for all visitors.

At 9:30 p.m., the Museum will present a music concert in its entrance courtyard of the famous artist Leon of Athens. Visitors will have the chance to listen to their favorite songs from the two albums released so far (‘Futrue’ and ‘Global’), but also remixes of popular songs of the international discography.
More information about the program of the day will be available soon on the official site of the museum: www.theacropolismuseum.gr
