The Togo-flag “NOOR ONE” tanker received the 986 kilos of heroin that were seized by the Greek Coast Guard on Sunday morning while in international waters between Oman and Pakistan in early May. TheCoast Guard men found the sacks of heroin in a warehouse in Koropi, as was revealed by the reporters of protothema.gr.
Shipping Minister Miltiades Varvitsiotis, presenting information on the case at noon on Sunday, conveyed congratulations to the Hellenic Coast Guard by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras for this huge success.
NOOR ONE was reportedly docked at the Sharjah port in UAE in late April. In early May the tanker received the drugs in international waters between Oman and Pakistan.
Then, the captain of NOOR ONE suggested that there was a mechanical failure and the ship arrived on June 7 at the port of Eleusis for repairs.
A senior Greek Coast Guard security officer told the ANA-MPA that the way the drugs were concealed on the Togo-flag “NOOR ONE” tanker was so well-planned that its detection was not easy and not even by the service’s special dogs.
The 14 arrestees include 11 crew members of Indian origin, a 53 year old Greek woman – the alleged representative of the shipping company- and another Greek who allegedly helped to transport the heroin to the villa in Philothei.
