In the Greek mountainous Nafpaktos, at an altitude of 880 meters, dominates for at least six centuries one of the most beautiful villages of Greece, Platanos. A graphic village, crowded and lively, which is a tourist attraction famous for its traditional character, its buildings and the residents lifestyle , as well as its position that is used as a base for exploring the rich natural beauty of the region.
One of the most prominent children of Platanos is the multitalented Mr. Basilis Zisimos, who for years felt the need to reciprocate to the village who was born and grew up something precious. His love for the place and his desire to offer was so intense, that he devoted ten years of his life to hard work and great care, in order to accomplish an enormous volume of research.
The results of this work are presented in a luxurious 662-page volume, which reflects up to the depths of the 18th century roots of families (approximately 200) who lived in the village and continue to support it with their branches. There is, however, a book solely of folklore nature, the interest of which is limited only to those who originate from Platanos and looking their genealogical tree, but also of a historical nature, as numerous rare elements of the village and the region are set out in the book.
Over 15,000 people are named in the book, with details on their birth date, their profession and others, while this amazing investigation found 267 photos and persons born before 1900-some of them even from the inside 19th century.
It would be nice for similar initiatives throughout the Greek territory, as such efforts not only enable us to explore our roots, but mainly play important role in saving pieces of the history of our country.
