Prime Minister Antonis Samaras’ wife, Georgia, received an award on behalf of her husband at an event recognising individuals who have supported the Asylum for Chronic Disease Patients in Athens, a nonprofit caretaking center for the chronically ill, on Tuesday.
Also presented with awards were Canadian Ambassador to Athens Robert Peck and Mrs. Peck, former Finance Minister and Bank of Greece governor-designate Yannis Stournaras, former director of the premier’s office and current Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) general manager Akis Skertsos and founding member of the charity “Boroume!” (We can) Xenia Papastavrou.
Asylum’s president Ioanna Eliadi thanked all for their contributions and spoke about the new legislative framework that will “guarantee full transparency and control of the management and utilisation of the foundation’s real estate and the safeguarding of jobs through a readjustment of payroll expenses.” Under this plan, she said, “there is a provision for a favourable settlement of debts to the state and the insurance funds for the long term” and she said it also suspended the criminal prosecution of board of management members for these debts.
The event was also attended by government spokeswoman Sofia Voultepsi, Deputy Labour Minister Vassilis Kegeroglou, deputies Adonis Georgiadis, former Health minister and currently parliamentary spokesman for New Democracy and Panagiotis Kouroublis, parliamentary representative for the main opposition SYRIZA, and others.
