A big Greek feast was held yesterday in Astoria and in other areas of New York, where hundreds of Greeks’ were in the streets to celebrate the victory of the Greek national team.

Greeks were celebrating in the street shouting “Greece-Greece” and waving Greek flags. Especially in Astoria dozens of drivers were singing and honking. Even citizens of other nationalities participated in the celebrations of the Greeks.

“It’s the first time I celebrate for Greece,” said to ANA-MPA the 22-year-old student Michael Arvanitis, born in Long Island, New York, who expressed his hope to celebrate tomorrow, too.

The cook Elias Theoharidis from Thessaloniki stated that “the national team made all Greeks very happy which was very important especially during these difficult years of crisis”.

“It’s nice feeling proud of your origin country” the lawyer Elina Vasiliadou said.

Pantelis Domtsidis, who works at a hotel in Manhattan, holding a Greek flag said “it is a triumph for Greece, it is a historic win”.

The 14-year-old student Chris Chrysostomou said: “It was a nice game and Greeks played very well. When Colombia won Greece, Colombians celebrated in Astoria. Now it’s our turn. ”

Celebrations, though, for the success of the national team occurred in other U.S. cities, where a large number of expatriates live, such as Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia.
