The Greek Prime Minister M. Antonis Samaras in his speech on the occasion of the six month mark of the Greek EU presidency, sent a message to Turkey, that if they want to join the European Union there are obligations that must be respected.

“We require all prospective members to respect their obligations in full ” said the Greek Prime Minister without making direct reference to our neighbor country, by making a small assessment of ‘landmark presidency in a fateful era” as he said.

“Two years ago, only a few people thought that we will be here, some anticipated the forced exit of Greece from the Eurozone. We disproved them not as persons but as Greece ” stated Mr. Samaras, who indicated the policies that the Greek presidency exercised ” in an extremely austere budget from which not even the 40% was used”.

The prime minister also stressed that Greece:

– Highlighted the growth and employment as the top challenge not only in Greece but throughout Europe,

– Highlighted the European border management and migration while respecting the rights and the actual dimension regarding the safety warning for impending large increase in the migration flow due to the instability in the wider region

“Migration is now an integral part of EU foreign policy,” continued Mr. Antonis Samaras, on the issue of illegal immigration.

Referring to the elections in May, he argued that the Europeans “did not vote against the EU but requested better Europe. They disapproved a Europe of statistics and demanded a realistic and visionary Europe able to solve its problems. ”

With the opportunity given,  he attacked against those who saw the opportunity for populism in the European elections. “Those which on one hand are directed against NATO, and on the other hand adopting anything directed against Europe, have as standards the Latin America’s bankruptcy, which Europe prevented,” said Samaras picturing the Greek political right party SYRIZA and concluded: Fortunately these forces were and remain a minority.
